BMG Acquires the Publishing Interests of Australian Band Jet

BMG has added to its holdings related to the Australian band Jet, acquiring the publishing interests in their song catalog. This follows BMG’s purchase of Jet’s recordings catalog in 2023.

The agreement encompasses the publishing interests held by three of the band’s four original members: Nic Cester, Cam Muncey, and Mark Wilson.

Jet has achieved significant commercial success, selling over 6.5 million albums globally across their three studio releases. Their song “Are You Gonna Be My Girl,” released in 2003, gained widespread recognition after being featured in a 2004 Apple iPod advertisement.

According to reports, BMG invested $405 million in music rights acquisitions in 2025, with this purchase being the most recent.

Heath Johns, President, Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia, BMG, stated: “There are few Australian bands with songs as internationally recognizable as Jet. Jet was the Australian export story of the early 2000s, carrying the torch for a new generation of rock ’n’ roll storytellers. Jet’s enduring success is illustrated on stage at festivals and headline shows around the world, on radio, across streaming, and through a global sync track record of the rarest order. BMG is honored that Jet has placed their faith in us to help ensure these songs continue to find new audiences for many years to come.”
