Spotify Announces Hi-Fi Tier Delay, Focuses on Podcast Investment

Spotify has postponed the launch of its lossless audio quality Hi-Fi subscription tier, shifting resources towards podcasting and advertising initiatives.

Spotify has announced a delay in the release of its previously promised Hi-Fi tier, which would have offered lossless audio streaming. The company originally announced plans for the Hi-Fi tier in February 2021.

According to a statement released on Monday, Spotify is now prioritizing investments in its podcasting and advertising segments. The Hi-Fi tier is no longer expected to launch in 2023.

“While we had planned to launch Hi-Fi this year, we’ve decided to focus our development resources on other areas,” a Spotify spokesperson said. “We’ll share more details when we have them.”

The postponement follows a period of significant investment in podcasting, including exclusive deals with creators like Joe Rogan. Spotify Pays a Record $11 Billion+ to the Music Industry in 2025. Spotify has also been expanding its advertising capabilities, aiming to increase revenue from personalized ad experiences.
