HAAi has released a new remix of Nina Simone’s 1966 track ‘That’s All I Ask’, the latest entry in Verve Records’ ‘Verve Remixed’ series celebrating the label’s 70th anniversary.
The reimagining of the song, which first appeared on Simone’s album Broadway-Blues-Ballads, follows recent Simone reworks in the same series from DESIREE and Mochakk. DESIREE’s version of ‘Four Women’ arrived in March, and Mochakk’s take on ‘See-Line Woman’ was shared last month.
“Nina Simone is one of those artists that even on first listen is able to convey an honesty in her lyrics and her voice that stays with you forever. I’ve loved ‘That’s All I Ask’ as a track for so long, it’s so beautiful,” HAAi said.
The London-based DJ and producer explained that she built the remix around Simone’s vocal, aiming to “give it lots of space and lean into the honesty of her voice.”
The remix is available to stream on Apple Music.
HAAi released her second album ‘HUMANiSE’ in October, followed by a remix EP of the album track ‘Can’t Stand to Lose’, featuring NIKS, ATRIP, Romy, and others.
