South African musician Kabelo Mabalane has confirmed his return to recording with a new studio album, his first in 11 years, explaining that the prolonged break was a deliberate wait for creative authenticity.
An 11-Year Wait for Authenticity
The former TKZee member last released a solo album, Immortal Vol. 3, in 2015. Although he continued to write and record during the intervening years, Mabalane said he withheld the material because it did not reflect his true self at the time.
In an Instagram post, Mabalane stated that he chose not to release music until he could create from a place of honesty. He urged other artists to ensure their work stems from personal truth rather than external expectations.
Mabalane attributed his renewed creative direction to the life changes he has undergone over the past decade. He noted that he is now a husband, father, and pastor, and that his Christian faith is central to his daily life. These experiences, he said, have shaped the music he is now ready to share.
Teasers and Collaborations
The announcement follows studio teasers that featured gospel singer Khaya Mthethwa, Amapiano producer JazziQ, an orchestra, and a gospel choir. The footage suggests the album will blend contemporary South African sounds with orchestral and gospel elements. Mabalane has indicated that the release is approaching sooner than many anticipate.
A Legacy in Kwaito and Beyond
Mabalane rose to prominence as one-third of the kwaito group TKZee, alongside the late Tokollo “Magesh” Tshabalala and Zwai Bala. The group produced hits such as Palafala, Dlala Mapantsula, and Shibobo. His solo career includes tracks like Pantsula 4 Life, Dubula, and Love Me Or Leave Me Alone, and he has won multiple South African Music Awards.
Beyond music, Mabalane has worked as a motivational speaker and wellness advocate. He has said that his upcoming album integrates these facets of his life, offering a body of work shaped by faith and personal growth.
A release date for the album has not yet been announced.
