Spotify is adding editor-led video recommendations to its New Music Friday playlist in the U.S., merging the flagship release-day playlist with the video format of The Drop Weekly.

The Drop Weekly launched in September 2025 and, according to Spotify, more than doubled listener engagement through saves and likes compared to standard playlist experiences.

Starting today, users who open the New Music Friday playlist on the Spotify mobile app by searching “New Music Friday” will see videos from the company’s editorial team interspersed with the weekly song selections.

“New Music Friday has always been about helping fans discover the best new music each week,” said John Stein, Head of North America Editorial at Spotify. “By bringing our editors directly into the experience, we’re giving listeners a closer connection to the people behind the playlist and more context around the artists and songs shaping culture right now.”

The feature is available to both Free and Premium users in the U.S.
