Questions

Common questions.

Do I need a licence for a cover on Spotify?
Yes. Streaming stores require the mechanical licence for the composition. Uploading a cover without one gets the release rejected or removed.
Does the licence cover YouTube?
Mechanical licences cover audio distribution. YouTube video use of a cover is handled through YouTube's own licensing and Content ID.
Can I license a translation or a new arrangement?
A straight cover is licensed as standard. Changes to lyrics or melody are derivative works and need the publisher's permission.
