The Recording Academy has unveiled a series of rule changes for the 2027 GRAMMY Awards, set to take place February 7, 2027. The update introduces five new categories and adjusts eligibility criteria for the Best New Artist and Best Album fields.

Key changes detailed in the official rule book include:

  • Five new award categories, among them Best R&B Collaboration or Duo/Group Performance.
  • The maximum number of submissions an artist can receive in the Best New Artist category rises from three to four.
  • For Best Album categories (such as Best Rock Album and Best Dance/Electronic Album), the minimum share of new material drops from 75% to 66%, allowing releases that include remixes, extended versions, or live recordings to remain eligible.
  • Songwriters credited on winning albums will now receive statuettes and Achievement Certificates.

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. addressed the Best New Artist revision, stating:

“The way artists are being developed is changing, and the time it’s taking to find success or recognition can take longer than it once did.”

Full details of all rule amendments are available in the Academy’s updated rule book.
