Peermusic has completed its acquisition of Sydney-based 120 Publishing and appointed its general manager, Karen Hamilton, managing director of Peermusic Australasia. The deal gives Peermusic publishing rights to approximately 5,000 works and 120,000 administered copyrights.
Financial terms were not disclosed. Peermusic operates 39 offices across 33 countries and has more than 200 employees worldwide.
120 Publishing’s catalog
120 Publishing works with dance and electronic music writers, producers and topliners, with a focus on collaborations between Australian writers and international artists. It also represents K-pop and J-pop writers and serves as a sub-publisher for international catalogs in Australia and New Zealand.
The company has signed and developed Australian artists including Evermore, Kisschasy, Trial Kennedy and The Butterfly Effect. Its founder, Tim McGee, who is also chief executive of TMRW Music, said 120 was established as an in-house publishing operation for writers and producers across the label group.
Hamilton’s new role
Hamilton joined 120 Publishing 15 years ago. She is deputy chair of the Australasian Music Publishers Association (AMPAL) and a board director of the Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society (AMCOS).
Mary Megan Peer said the acquisition extends Peermusic’s investment in Australasian repertoire. Ralph W. Peer said it would expand the company’s presence in Australia and its services for writers locally and internationally. Hamilton said Peermusic’s worldwide administration and creative network would provide additional opportunities for 120 Publishing’s writers.
