A band EPK (electronic press kit) collects the materials promoters and journalists need to assess an artist, arrange coverage or promote a show. Its contents can support bookings, new releases or both.
The format replaces promotional packages musicians previously mailed to venues, festivals and talent buyers. Hosting it on an artist’s website gives industry visitors a central place to find relevant material.
Contents can change as an artist’s career develops or with each release. A kit focused on an album or single can bring together the material relevant to that project.
Biography and promotional images
Place the artist biography near the beginning of the kit. An opening paragraph should identify the musician or band, describe the genre and mention a recent accomplishment.
Bookers and festivals may impose different biography word limits. Providing several lengths as downloadable files accommodates those requirements; a medium-length version can also appear directly on the page.
Make its opening paragraph work independently, since a recipient may use only that portion. Keep the page layout clear and easy to navigate.
Supply photographs in different sizes and styles to accommodate promotional and editorial uses:
- Posed band photographs.
- Live images showing the act’s performance style.
- For an album campaign, photographs consistent with the release’s visual presentation and the album artwork.
Thumbnail previews can conserve space while giving recipients access to high-resolution downloads.
Music and video selections
Lead with recordings that represent the artist’s sound, drawing from the strongest and most popular tracks. A promoter or music supervisor encountering the act for the first time may listen to only one or two songs.
Include a player with full-track playback that starts with a single click. Add a brief description explaining the featured single, forthcoming album or sound represented by the selection.
That description gives journalists and reviewers context for the recordings. It can be written by the artist or use a relevant quotation from a DJ (disc jockey) or fan.
Select a few relevant music videos that promoters and journalists can find and share. Refresh the selection as new material becomes available, removing videos that no longer serve the kit’s purpose.
- For booking enquiries, include live performance footage so buyers can assess how the act sounds and performs onstage.
- For an album campaign, include an official music video or lyric video for a lead single.
Reviews and coverage
A dedicated coverage section gathers existing reviews and articles in one place for music programmers, journalists and presenters. Coverage of live performances can also support booking enquiries.
Keep this section concise by selecting a brief excerpt from each relevant review, giving recipients an overview without requiring them to read every article in full.
