South African DJ and producer Black Coffee recently completed a series of performances in France and the United Kingdom. The artist, who received a Grammy Award, performed at the Arènes de Nîmes in France and was scheduled to perform at The O2 in London with a live orchestra.

The performances included appearances by international and South African artists, such as Alicia Keys, Monique Bingham, Portia Monique, Msaki, Nduduzo Makhathini and Nakhane.

Industry organizations acknowledged the performances as demonstrations of South African artists reaching international audiences while preserving their cultural connections. A spokesperson for the South African Music Awards (SAMAs), Unathi Gwija, stated, “Black Coffee continues to remind us that South African music belongs on the world’s biggest stages.” Gwija also noted that his success benefits the entire South African music community, as he represents the country during international performances and inspires other artists.

The SAMAs indicated the performances support their “Friends of the SAMAs – Roots to the World Arenas” initiative, which recognizes South African artists who achieve international success while maintaining ties to their heritage.

Nkosinathi Maphumulo, known professionally as Black Coffee, has established a global presence through his combination of house music and African influences. He has performed at numerous international venues and festivals, contributing to the increased visibility of South African dance music internationally.

Industry observers noted his appearances in France and the United Kingdom demonstrate the growing prominence of African artists on global stages and the increasing international recognition of South African music.

The SAMAs and the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) congratulated Black Coffee on the performances, calling them significant achievements for both his career and the South African music industry. This success comes at a time when AI in the Nigerian Music Industry is also gaining prominence.
