Warner Music India is expanding its Tamil and Malayalam repertoire through a catalog acquisition and agreements covering existing and future releases. The deals extend its business in Southern India across film soundtracks and independently released music.
Acquisition and release agreements
The expansion involves three agreements:
- Warner has acquired the Gemini Music catalog, which contains Tamil film soundtracks.
- An exclusive music agreement with filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon covers his past and future releases. Menon’s work includes both film music and independent releases.
- Malayalam film producer and distributor Magic Frames has partnered with Warner, bringing a catalog of more than 500 tracks, with further additions planned. Warner will release all future music and music videos through the production company.
Regional strategy
Jay Mehta, managing director of recorded music and publishing for India and SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation), said:
“South India’s vibrant regional markets are central to building a sustainable, future-forward music business in India. By combining marquee catalogue acquisitions with long-term creative partnerships, we’re strengthening our regional foundation while leveraging Warner Music’s global network to take these incredible soundtracks and artists to the world.”
Ashok Parwani, Warner Music India’s head of music for South India, said:
“South Indian film music has a lasting cultural impact, with soundtracks that continue to find new audiences well beyond their original release. These partnerships allow us to build on that enduring appeal while investing in the next generation of releases, creating a stronger and more expansive repertoire across the region.”
